Supporting Staff Development
The Norfolk and Suffolk Training Hub supports staff development by identifying, sourcing and coordinating education and training opportunities for staff working within primary care across Norfolk and Suffolk.
We receive NHS England CPD funding and access to NHS England commissioned programmes. We also actively explore and bid for funding through other routes as opportunities become available. Access depends on funding availability and the eligibility requirements of each route.
Our offer responds to workforce needs, service priorities and our annual training needs analysis.
Three Ways to Access Training and Development
1. Training Hub Events Platform
The Training Hub offers clinical and non-clinical training, webinars, workshops, short courses and development programmes throughout the year.
How to access: Create an account and book available opportunities at any time, subject to eligibility and place availability.
Suitable for: Learning and development needs where a Training Hub course or programme is already available.
2. CPD Funding Expression of Interest
If your development need cannot be met through the existing Training Hub offer, you may be able to request support through the CPD Funding Expression of Interest (EOI) process.
Requests should:
- Relate to your role or agreed development pathway.
- Benefit patients, services or workforce development.
- Have the agreement and support of your manager.
Application Windows
CPD Funding EOIs typically open in April and October for four weeks. Opportunities are advertised through the Training Hub’s usual communication channels, including the Training Hub website and newsletter.
Practice Managers receive at least two weeks’ advance notice before each EOI is advertised to the wider workforce. This provides time for development conversations, workforce planning and manager agreement before applications open. Outcomes are normally communicated within two weeks of the closing date.
Please note: Submission does not guarantee funding. Requests may be approved in full, approved in part or declined.
How Applications Are Assessed
Applications are considered against:
- Role relevance, manager support and expected benefit.
- Alignment with workforce priorities and value for money.
- Availability of existing or alternative funded provision.
- Eligibility requirements of the relevant funding source.
Suitable for: Individual development needs that cannot be met through the existing Training Hub programme.
3. NHS England Commissioned Programmes
NHS England commissioned programmes operate separately from the CPD Funding EOI process and are generally clinically focused. Examples may include Advanced Practice, Non-Medical Prescribing, General Practice Nurse Fundamentals and pharmacy education programmes.
Programme availability, eligibility, providers, places and application timescales vary according to each NHS England commission. Opportunities may become available at different points throughout the year and will be advertised by the Training Hub once commissioning arrangements are confirmed.
Suitable for: Staff who meet the eligibility requirements of a specific commissioned programme.
Development Conversations and Your Commitment
Before booking or applying for any learning opportunity, discuss it with your manager and obtain their agreement. This ensures that the learning need, study commitment, release arrangements and service requirements have been considered.
Learners are expected to:
- Arrange appropriate release with their manager.
- Attend and participate in the required learning.
- Complete required evaluations or outcome measures.
- Inform the Training Hub of any withdrawal or change in circumstances.
