About this event

This session has been organised by SNEE ICB Suffolk Medicines Optimisation Team, and is aimed at Practice Nurses and Health Care Assistants actively undertaking wound care within Primary Care in Suffolk and North East Essex.

The aim of the session will be to introduce learners to the importance of wound bed preparation and the use of TIMES model of wound care when undertaking the management of wounds within their practice setting. As part of this session the learner will gain knowledge of classifying and managing skin tears appropriately.

Wound healing/woundcare

• Skin: anatomy and physiology, skin integrity

• Health economics

• Wound healing – acute and chronic

• Wound assessment – TIMES principle

• Exudate management

• Appropriate product selection

Skin tear prevention/management

• International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP)

• Skin structure and changes in the older person

• Classification

• Risk factors

• Assessment and management using ISTAP guidance

• Risk assessment – introducing a skin tear risk reduction programme

• Appropriate dressings
