Pharmacy Technician Pre-registration Trainee (PTPT) Funding

The Norfolk & Suffolk Training Hub has funding have spaces available for Pharmacy Technician Pre-registration Trainee!

1 placement to start between June 2026 to September 2026, 5 placements to start between August 2026 to December 2026, and 3 placements to start between January 2027 to March 2027. 

The course fees would be covered by apprenticeship funding and would need to be a GPhC apprenticeship approved course.  Pharmacy technician (integrated) / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education 

An educational supervisor (Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist) is needed for the duration of the course. Free training to become an Educational Supervisor is available from Educational Supervisor Training for the Community Pharmacy Workforce – ProPharmace 

The educational supervisor must be a qualified Pharmacy Technician or a registered Pharmacist and be onsite for at least 14 hours per week to provide supervision and mentorship. 

Each learner must complete a 12-week hospital or community pharmacy placement annually, which can be split across the year (e.g., one day per week). Reciprocal placements may be arranged. 

Some examples of what PTPTs can do: 

  • Repeat prescriptions management  
  • Patient safety audit Medicines Reconciliation  
  • Complete a concordance / compliance review 
  • Counselling patients to support them in using their medicines effectively 
  • Counsel patients on new or high-risk medication 
  • Medication switching – high-cost drugs Health promotion campaigns  
  • Respond to the MHRA recalls  
  • Assist with medication queries  
  • Clinical prioritisation of patients and tasks 
  • Support initiatives for antimicrobial stewardship
