Financial Support for Dental Learning Organisations

New Educational Supervisor Applications close 19th December 2025

Dental Foundation Training can provide a new challenge for you and your team. It can help you recruit new clinicians and retain your current workforce. For most newly qualified dentists, Dental Foundation Training (DFT) in general dental practice is the first step in their postgraduate professional life.

Dental Foundation Training is carried out in specially appointed Training Practices. Experienced general dental practitioners who have a willingness to teach and help newdentists are appointed as Educational Supervisors (ESs). They take on new dentists intheir Training Practice and provide these Foundation Dentists (FDs) with a fully equipped surgery, a dental nurse, and patients. The new dentist works in the practice for a maximum of 35 hours per week. The ES must be available to provide help and advice, be it chairside or otherwise, and must provide a protected learning time lasting one hour, during normal working hours.

ESs and practices applying now will go through a formal selection and training process. A trainee will be allocated in the early summer 2026 and will start as a new member of your team on 1st September 2026.

The Suffolk and North East Essex Training Hub is keen to support dental practices to become Learning Organisations.  There will be financial support for some sites to enable this change and development.

Becoming involved in Foundation Training and other Primary Care Training can have huge benefits for your practice environment; supporting and training the workforce of the future will help you to retain your workforce, as well as help with recruitment. There is currently expansion happening in dentistry, so there’s never been a better time to get involved.
